LONDON - Leicester and England halfback Harry Ellis is to undergo an operation to repair the knee injury he sustained during his club's Heineken Cup victory over the Neath-Swansea Ospreys on Sunday.
Leicester coach Pat Howard told the club's website on Thursday Ellis would probably be available in early January.
England open their Six Nations campaign against Wales on Feb. 4.
"Harry's having a small operation," Howard said. "I think he's likely to be out for a couple of weeks and hopefully nothing too bad will show up."
Ellis had to wait until swelling on the injury subsided before having the damage assessed by a MRI scan.
He sustained the injury in an off-the-ball clash with Ospreys lock Ian Evans, who faces a disciplinary hearing on Friday after being cited for the incident.
Wales and Lions centre Gavin Henson will attend the same hearing after being cited for two separate incidents in the same match.
