Manawatu midfielder Frank Bryant has been suspended for a week after punching Tasman fullback Tom Marshall in last night's national provincial championship rugby match against Tasman in Nelson.
Today's judicial hearing considered video footage, a number of statements and additional footage provided by Manawatu.
Judicial officer Nigel Hampton concluded there was a degree of provocation as a result of Bryant being cleaned out of a number of rucks in an unorthodox and potentially dangerous manner.
Hampton took into account Bryant's good record in 77 first class matches for Manawatu and the fact that he showed remorse.
Bryant has been suspended for one week until September 2, ruling him out of Manawatu's rescheduled round 10 match against Otago in Dunedin on August 30.
