Former All Blacks loose forward Mike Brewer has confirmed he will put his name forward for the Scotland rugby coach's position.
Frank Hadden stepped down earlier this month after Scotland finished fifth in the Six Nations, winning just one of their five Championship matches, against fellow strugglers Italy.
Brewer, 44, has been forwards coach for Scotland since last year.
He told the Scotland on Sunday newspaper yesterday that he believed former England coach Andy Robinson, currently coaching Edinburgh, was the favourite for the role.
It is understood Robinson is waiting until tomorrow's deadline before making a decision on applying for the job.
"He's probably the best person for the job, if you're looking at progressing your coaches through," Brewer said.
"The key thing for the whole of Scottish rugby is to maintain continuity and to keep up skilling the players and at Glasgow and Edinburgh to keep increasing their expectation."
Brewer said he believed Scotland had the potential to improve on their dismal recent record in the Six Nations.
"We need to change and a big aspect of it is our intensity at training and our adccuracy of execution," he said.
