KEY POINTS:
The game is definitely faster but not necessarily better. That is the view of former Waikato and Samoa coach John Boe on the new laws being trialled in the Australian Rugby Championship.
The laws were in place at the weekend as Boe's East Coast Aces won their opening round match.
Boe said the laws were having the desired effect which means rugby may become a game more for the athletic players, but there are some concerns, especially at the ruck which became a bit of a bun fight.
He said the game his team played at the weekend was certainly the fastest he had ever seen but at times it got out of control and became a lot like league.
Boe does not agree with the law which allows mauls to be brought down as it is important for the game to be slowed down occasionally.
But he added that it is still early days and the new rules needed to be given time.
