Auckland proved too strong for Waikato, taking out their rugged division one encounter 24-13 at Rugby Park in Hamilton today.
The northerners scored three tries to two, dominating the Mooloomen with their powerful forward pack.
Winger Bruce Reihana went over the line thirty seconds into the match to put Waikato ahead 5-0.
The Auks replied late in the first half with Leo Lafaiali'i and Carlos Spencer scoring tries and Spencer a penalty to give Auckland a 14-8 lead at the break.
With the advantage of the breeze, Waikato's Keith Lowen dotted down early in the second half to keep in touch with the blue and whites.
But another Spencer penalty and a try to Robin Brooke ensured an Auckland win.
Meanwhile Wellington beat Southland 28-21, scoring four tries to two in today's other first division match in Invercargill.
