Allan Pollock has withdrawn his bid to become North Harbour NPC coach and accepted a coaching job with the Toyota team in Japan.
Pollock was the assistant coach of North Harbour for the past four years and had applied to replace Wayne Shelford.
North Harbour chief executive Doug Rollerson said Pollock's decision did not come easily.
"It was a very good offer, it had to be good to drag him away. In the end he did the right thing for him and his family and we wish him all the best."
Pollock had been involved with the North Harbour union for many years as a player and coach.
"He is an identity in North Harbour rugby. He is very personable and very knowledgeable," said Rollerson.
Pollock will take up his position in March. The first fulltime coach for the North Harbour team will be named this afternoon.
