Otago ended Waikato's five game unbeaten run with a 35-20 win at Carisbrook in Dunedin on Saturday.
Waikato retain their first division NPC lead, with Otago slotting into second place after scoring four tries to Waikato's two during a game characterised by hard running and hard tackling.
Otago led 11-7 at half-time,their sole try coming from fullback Neil Brew. Waikato scored the first try of the game after a break by Regan King put fullback Todd Miller away.
