Rush missing from Auckland NPC squad

Xavier Rush was a notable omission from Auckland coach Pat Lam's 2005 NPC squad named today.

The regular captain and No 8 has failed to recover from glandular fever.

He was due to leave Auckland for Wales after the NPC when he signed a three-year contract with Cardiff in May.

Auckland will instead be captained by Justin Collins.

All Blacks Mils Muliaina, Ali Williams, Keven Mealamu, Joe Rokocoko, Derren Witcombe and John Afoa were not selected in the 26-man squad due to their international commitments.

These players will be considered for selection after the Tri-Nations tournament concludes on September 3.

Auckland's opening NPC match is against North Harbour on August 13.
