Canterbury jumped ahead of Southland to go top of the ITM Cup standings after beating southern rivals Otago on Saturday.
The win means for the second time in three weeks the Ranfurly Shield will be contested between the top two teams when Southland host the Cantabs on Saturday night.
Southland gave up their top spot after being convincingly beaten by Taranaki on Saturday. The amber and blacks have their eye on a playoff spot after moving into third.
Waikato, Auckland and Bay of Plenty round out the top six with Counties Manukau and Wellington nipping at their heels.
