Southland 19 Otago 12
Southland signed off Carisbrook's 128-year history with a strangely anti-climactic 19-12 win over Otago in the last game at the grand old ground today.
Both teams were guilty of too many handling errors for the game to really flow, but Southland secured the scrappy win on the back of three first-half tries.
The win lifts Southland off the bottom of the premiership division, leaving Wellington holding the wooden spoon with six more rounds to play over over the next three weeks.
Otago lie third in the championship, their late dropped goal leaving them one point astray of second-placed Manawatu with Hawke's Bay three points clear at the top.
