KEY POINTS:
Canterbury will be without a number of their Crusaders players when they face Southland in a pre-season rugby match at Christchurch on Saturday.
One who is fit to start is flanker Kieran Read, who has been named captain for the season.
However, injury has sidelined both hookers - Corey Flynn and Ti'i Paulo - along with centre Casey Laulala and winger Sean Maitland.
Not available for personal reasons are second five-eighth Tim Bateman and forwards George and Adam Whitelock, who are brothers.
Prop Campbell Johnstone will play club rugby as he returns from injury.
