KEY POINTS:
North Harbour rugby is hoping the need for overseas imports is temporary rather than a future trend.
They have signed three UK-based players for the Air New Zealand Cup to cover for a lack of depth and experience in some key positions.
They are London Wasps first five Dave Walder, Bath lock Martin Purdy and Munster utility back Jeremy Manning.
Walder has four caps for England from 2001 and Purdy captained the England under-21 side.
Manning is New Zealand-born and did represent Marlborough before playing the last three years in Ireland.
North Harbour coach Wayne Pivac would like to think it is a one off move as there are a lot of talented young players in the region and he is hoping the overseas players can help develop the next level of talent.
Pivac said their youngsters were exposed last year and Harbour need some old heads to help direct them in difficult times.
