Former North Harbour captain Michael Reid's professional rugby career is over at the age of 25.
The loosehead prop has been battling ruptured tendons in his left foot for four seasons and, despite several operations, his foot has been unable to cope with the sustained pressure at scrum time.
Reid played 48 games for North Harbour and just one for the Blues in a frustrating career highlighted by selection for the New Zealand Colts in 2005 and 2006.
He said when the injury flared again playing for Harbour against Hawke's Bay in July he knew that would likely be the end of his playing days.
"For the past four years I've done everything possible to find a solution, but the reality is no surgeon here or around the world has a viable option to allow me to continue a professional career,'' Reid said
