The Bay of Plenty Rugby Union and Greg Smith have agreed to a mutual termination of his contract.
Smith was stood down as Bay of Plenty's coach just before the start of the Air New Zealand Cup.
Bay of Plenty chief executive Jeremy Curragh says team manager Sean Horan will fulfil the head coaching duties for the remainder of the season.
He says Horan was a logical choice, as they want minimal disruptions for the squad given the season's already started.
Curragh has refused to make any comment regarding Smith and the reasons behind their decision to part company with the former Chiefs hooker.
Steve Miln will continue as Bay of Plenty's assistant coach.
