KEY POINTS:
Waikato winger Sosene Anesi failed a fitness test this morning and will miss the Air NZ Cup/Ranfurly Shield rugby match against Canterbury in Hamilton on Saturday.
Anesi had been named on the wing in Waikato's starting 15 as he was poised to play his 50th match for the province.
However, he failed to convince the team's medical staff of his fitness today as he battles to overcome a quadriceps strain which has already sidelined him for a fortnight.
James Kamana was named as Anesi's replacement, meaning Waikato will field an identical backline which started against North Harbour last weekend.
Up front, Kent Fife will have his first start this season at lock due to the absence of Toby Lynn, who was banned for six weeks for a biting offence in the 52-7 win over North Harbour.
"Kent has been involved with the squad for the last couple of years, he had fantastic club form and is a dominant figure for his club Hautapu. I am confident he will do a great job this Saturday," coach Warren Gatland said.
