Waikato's most capped current player Sosene Anesi will move back to New Zealand from Sydney to play for the province in this year's ITM Cup.
Anesi, 29, played for the NSW Waratahs in the Super 14 this season.
But he has signed a one-season deal to play for Waikato and will join a pre-season training squad later this month.
Anesi has played 76 games for Waikato since his debut in 2003.
"It is great to be able to welcome back Sosene for another Waikato season," Waikato coach Chris Gibbes said today.
"He is a quality, experienced player who brings a lot to the table. He is able to play a fullback or on the wing and has a great skill set.
"His knowledge, combined with his loyalty to the red, yellow and black jersey will inspire our younger guys, while at the same time giving our Waikato team the experience needed to compete strongly in the provincial championship."
