Neither Waikato nor Canterbury are overly enthusiastic about New Zealand Rugby Union's (NZRU) plans to stage midweek Air New Zealand Cup matches.
The NZRU is planning on staging a match on Thursday nights following a suggestion from broadcaster Sky TV to ease the weekend congestion of games.
NZRU tournaments manager Neil Sorensen said the midweek time slot was being discussed after a meeting with Sky two weeks ago and could be used during the second round of the cup competition.
"Thursday night is certainly on the cards," Sorensen said.
However, it was not the only option, he said.
A decision would be made after the draw for the top six and repechage is made on Sunday.
Screening two matches on Friday night has also been looked at, but that would mean a clash with evening news.
Provinces such as Waikato and Canterbury were concerned that fans would not be able to get to grounds by 5.30pm on weekdays, with Waikato saying more consultation with provincial unions was needed.
The draw would also have to take into account the "turnaround' period for teams, which needed at least five days between their games.
