Otago lock James Ryan could return to first class rugby next weekend.
The 2005 All Black has been out of football since the early stages of the Super 14 with a serious shoulder injury. He resumed training last week with Otago and could play next weekend for the union's "A" or "B" team.
Otago coach Steve Martin says James Ryan is a possibility to play. Martin says they will make a call after he gets through contact training this week.
Steve Martin needs James Ryan more than ever, with lock Tom Donnelly going down with a shoulder injury in yesterday's loss to Harbour. Donnelly could miss the rest of the season.
