All Black lock Chris Jack is set to become the first player to switch unions following the establishment of a salary cap in New Zealand rugby.
Jack is understood to have signed to play for the Tasman Union in the inaugural Air New Zealand Cup, with the official announcement expected at 2:30pm.
The move means he will still remain in the Crusaders catchment for the Super 14.
Auckland Rugby CEO Andy Dalton says it is a logical move - if Jack is indeed the player involved.
Dalton says all the unions are likely to take a similar approach with regards to releasing players.
He says Auckland is actually due to make an announcement in the same vein about one of its players within the next two weeks.
