Despite losing to Fiji in the semifinals of the World Sevens tournament in London, New Zealand remained the series champion as the season came to a close.
Fiji beat New Zealand 26-7 in the semi but then lost to England 31-24 in the final. England had beaten South Africa 26-5 in their semifinal.
Despite winning the tournament, England did not have enough points to overtake New Zealand in the series standings.
