The Nelson Bays Rugby Union has asked the Nelson City Council for a $2 million advance towards upgrading Trafalgar Park despite earlier assurances it could raise its own bridging finance.
The rugby union needs to carry out a $2.69 million upgrade to meet the minimum stadium requirements of the NZRFU for teams competing in the premier division, which replaces the long-standing NPC next year.
The NZRFU will announce today the make-up of the revamped competition.
