Australian captain George Gregan says his decision to sit out the Wallabies' end-of-season tour of Europe should not affect his chances of playing in the World Cup next year.
Gregan, who has played more internationals than any player in rugby union history, confirmed last night that he will not take part in the tour, which includes Tests against Wales, Italy, Ireland and Scotland in November.
While Gregan's decision will provide an opportunity for rival half-backs to stake a claim for a starting position ahead of the World Cup, the 33-year-old said he would benefit from missing the tour as he would now be able to undertake a full off-season of training.
