Byron Kelleher is back in the Otago starters and Bay of Plenty are expecting that to add an even more competitive edge to tomorrow's clash in Rotorua.
Danny Lee, the Counties Manukau import, has started the season for Otago, but All Black Kelleher now gets his chance.
Otago coach Wayne Graham said: "We've tried to manage the return of our All Blacks the best we can.
"We thought that with Byron not knowing the calls and working with the game plan, it was better to ease him in slowly.
"Danny's wife gave birth to their first child this week, so with that and their relocation here, this seemed an appropriate time to let him sit back a bit. But he is definitely still in the frame."
Bay of Plenty coach Vern Cotter is concerned about his side's defence on the flanks after being exposed there by Canterbury, and Graham conceded his side would like a dry surface to help them to attack the Bay in that area.
And Cotter said Kelleher's return would add to the confrontational nature of the game.
"He is a very competitive individual. He will want to hammer away close to our rucks and mauls like he always does. He will be very motivated and Otago will be a very motivated team after losing to Taranaki."
"Ten seconds of inattention at this level usually costs you seven points."
Bay of Plenty will be missing reserve back Damian Karauna, whose father died during the week, while halfback Blair Cashmore and No 8 Paul Tupai have been brought into the starting lineup. Wing Jason Tiatia was in doubt with leg cramp problems, but is listed to play.
