First five-eighth Ryan Lewis kicked 23 points as Hawkes Bay drew 28-28 with North Harbour in a representative rugby match in Napier yesterday.
Lewis succeeded with eight of his nine attempts at goal, landing seven penalties and a conversion.
While thrilled with his success rate, Lewis rued his only miss which came four minutes from fulltime and could have been the matchwinner.
The result proved Hawkes Bay have the necessary depth to be a force in the second division.
The best of the North Harbour players were lock Luke Hanvey and flanker Wayne Simeon, winger Aisea Tuilevu and former All Black halfback Mark Robinson.
