SYDNEY - First five-eighths Stephen Larkham inspired Australia to a 30-12 win over a disappointing South Africa in a Nelson Mandela Challenge test on Saturday.
Australia outclassed the Springboks, scoring five tries at Sydney's Olympic Stadium. Fullback Percy Montgomery kicked four penalties for South Africa, who lacked spontaneity and were badly let down by poor defence.
The Wallabies set up their surprisingly one-sided win with three opportunistic tries in a 10-minute burst from midway through the first half to lead 18-3 at the break.
South Africa dominated the set pieces early but lacked variety and vision in attack. Australia attacked at will in the first half and then repelled waves of South African attacks late in the match to keep the Springboks try-less.
