Well-known Auckland sportsman Jack Carter has died, aged 79.
Through a lifetime of working for the major sports equipment distribution company Brittain Wynyard, Carter touched a wide range of sports, notably bowls, cricket, tennis, squash and golf, and became close friends with many of the country's leading sportsmen and women.
An active sportsman himself, Carter played club rugby with College Rifles in the 1940s and was a foundation member and a past president of the North Shore Squash Club.
He also played bowls as a member of the Takapuna club and was a member of bowls version of the Barbarians, the Kittyhawks.
