Blues and North Harbour lock Greg Rawlinson is being chased by the Springboks in what could become an international tug-of-war for his services.
New Zealand has also shown some interest in Rawlinson and he may be in contention for the All Blacks Junior squad which will be announced tomorrow as well as the All Blacks squad for the Lions.
Rawlinson first played in New Zealand for Bay of Plenty four seasons ago before accepting a short-term contract in his native South Africa and then returning to play in New Zealand.
It is unclear whether he has qualified on residential grounds for New Zealand or whether he could be chosen for the NZ Juniors without being eligible for the All Blacks.
Springbok interest has created a sudden dilemma for Rawlinson, who must decide where his future loyalties lie. Coach Jake White tracked down the lock in London, after he had played in the Martin Johnson testimonial match at Twickenham.
He indicated he wanted Rawlinson to join an extended side preparing for their test next weekend against France.
