Blues and All Black first five-eighth Carlos Spencer met with officials from the Northampton rugby club at the weekend to discuss a move to the UK Premiership side, the BBC has reported.
The 29-year-old Aucklander was introduced to Saints coach Budge Pountney and shown around Franklin's Gardens, the British news source says on their website today.
Spencer, currently recovering from a broken cheekbone, has a year left on his deal with Auckland and NZ Rugby.
"We can confirm Carlos came to the club and was shown around Franklin's Gardens," a Northampton spokesman is reported to have told BBC Sport.
London Irish and Harlequins have also been linked with Spencer, who has been capped 35 times by the All Blacks.
He lost his Blues slot to Tasesa Lavea before he was injured and has slipped down the pecking order for a black jersey, behind Daniel Carter and Andrew Mehrtens.
If he seeks an early end to his contractual commitments, NZ Rugby and Auckland would seek compensation, claimed the UK report.
