As debate rages about the best person to wear the number 10 jersey for the All Blacks in the forthcoming Tri-Nations series, the man most people want to see in the position remains cagey about the timing of his return.
Dan Carter, who was signed by French club side Perpignan last year on a lucrative six-month deal worth a reported $88,000 a match, suffered an achilles tendon tear during a Top 14 match back in February.
That injury meant an enforced six-month layoff from the sport.
Now the 26-year-old five eighth, writing on his personal website dancarter.co.nz, talks of how he is enjoying being back in the country and re-signing with his beloved Crusaders.
"Rehab is going well. I am now working very closely with the Canterbury physiotherapist and trainer to get back to full fitness.
"I am running freely and am currently trying to build up power and strength in my injured leg.
"I am still not exactly sure when I will be playing again, but hopefully soon! I am eager to get back on the field."
* Despite being without the services of Carter for the final stages of their campaign, Perpignan went on to clinch their first French rugby Top 14 title in 54 years, with a win over Clermont Auvergne in the final last month.
