All Black captain Richie McCaw is scheduled to undergo surgery today on his right foot.
McCaw will have the screw that caused him much discomfort throughout the year removed from the metatarsal and bone grafting work will be done to a bone stress around where the screw was.
The scheduled recovery from the operation is around 10 to 12 weeks at which point McCaw should be able to begin running again.
That would have the All Blacks skipper pounding the pavements around early February.
Add on another six weeks pre season training and conditioning and McCaw could be back in action by late March but most likely early April.
