All Blacks inside back Aaron Mauger has quelled speculation over his rugby future by confirming a post World Cup move to English powerhouse Leicester.
The 26-year-old veteran of 38 tests effectively spikes his New Zealand domestic career after the upcoming Super 14 competition, although he has indicated a desire to return to Canterbury after his two-year deal expires.
Regarded as one of the All Blacks most influential backline players, Mauger made his debut in 2001 against Ireland in Dublin and at a provincial level experienced four Super rugby titles.
He was also involved in two National Provincial Championship titles with Canterbury in 2001 and 2004 and played the last of 42 games for the province in last year's Air New Zealand Cup quarterfinal loss to Wellington.
Mauger, who is recovering from knee surgery, is part of the All Blacks reconditioning programme and will be available to play for the Crusaders in round eight against the Stormers, allowing him to extend his tally of 82 appearances.
Considered the perfect foil to pivot Daniel Carter, Mauger nevertheless faces a strong challenge from North Harbour's Luke McAlister to regain the No 12 jersey at international level this year.
