KEY POINTS:
Former All Black loose forward Sione Lauaki will miss the early rounds of the Chiefs Super 14 campaign after tests confirmed he broke a wrist in a pre-season match against the Blues last week.
The barnstorming No 8, who can also play on the blindside flank, is expected to be sidelined for at least four weeks before he can resume full training.
Lauaki, who has played seven tests, suffered the injury in Rotorua last Thursday night and has a splint on his left wrist.
Liam Messam, who alternated with Lauaki at the back of the scrum during Waikato's successful provincial campaign, is likely to slot in at No 8 for the Chiefs' competition opener against the Brumbies at Waikato Stadium on Saturday night.
Head coach Ian Foster will name his squad on Thursday.
