KEY POINTS:
Chiefs rugby coach Ian Foster yesterday announced his application for the All Blacks coaching job.
A Waikato Rugby Union media release confirmed Foster had put himself in contention but would not be commenting further. Applications for the job close at 5pm today.
Crusaders coach Robbie Deans, regarded as the favourite to win the role in many quarters, last month stated his desire to enter the race. It is understdood Hurricanes coach Colin Cooper has also applied.
Neither Foster nor Cooper are likely to be considered ahead of Deans but, by applying, could improve their chance of being appointed assistant coaches.
There was still no indication from incumbent Graham Henry whether he will reapply, nor from his assistant Steve Hansen.
