Former All Blacks and Otago prop Mark Irwin has died at the age of 83.
Irwin played 25 matches for the All Blacks between 1955 and 1961, but didn't score any points in the black jersey.
Gisborne-born, Irwin was educated at Wanganui Collegiate where he was head boy, before going on to study medicine at the University of Otago. He graduated in 1961.
It was down in the South Island where his on-field profile grew, with his play for Otago earning him an All Blacks call-up against Australia in Wellington in 1955 at the age of 20.
Also an accomplished rower, Irwin was among the eight nominated to represent New Zealand at the Olympic Games in 1956, but did not make the final team.
