McCaw inspires new generation of rugby players

Despite confirming his retirement from rugby last month, Richie McCaw is not letting his skills go to waste.

On his trip to South America, he gave a coaching session to children in schools of Argentina and Chile - leaving a new generation of players inspired with a passion for the game.

McCaw walked the students through skills such as breakdowns, passing and tackling.

"You realise the quality of person he is," explained Cristian Gonzalez, school sports coordinator of Santiago College. "He takes the time to meet everyone. There were many children asking for autographs and Richie wanted to be with each of them."

Pictures of McCaw coaching the children shared on the All Blacks Facebook page sparked hundreds of calls for him to make a break into coaching.

His natural leadership abilities and immense knowledge of the game will make him the perfect fit for any team, but, for now, the 34-year old appears to be in no rush to lead another team.

Since retiring the 147-test veteran is focussing on his directorship with Christchurch Helicopters and securing a commercial pilot's license.

McCaw has also been working on the iSport charity that he set up with Dan Carter and Ali Williams, which assists talented young Kiwis hit their sporting goals.
