KEY POINTS:
Bernard 'Joey' Sydney Sadler, All Black. Died aged 92.
Joey Sadler, a former All Black halfback who died in Wellington this week, was the second-oldest surviving ex-All Black. He was also one of only two surviving former All Blacks who played before World War II - the other was fellow Wellingtonian Eric Tindill.
"It is significant to lose one of the few living links with our rugby heritage from that era," said New Zealand Rugby Union chairman Jock Hobbs.
"Like all other All Blacks, Joey Sadler had his own unique story about his rugby career, which was cut short by injury, and his life beyond rugby."
Sadler had his debut for the All Blacks on the 1935 tour of Britain and France.
In all, Sadler played 19 times for the All Blacks, and scored four tries.
His career ended abruptly at the age of 22 because of a knee injury.
