NEW ZEALAND
*Isaia Toeava 6
Early nerves led to a couple of dropped balls and a mix up with Rico Gear. Fine high take on line saved try. Promising signs on attack. Important role in Sione Lauaki's try.
* Rico Gear 7
Two more tries, and a knock on spoilt a third. One bad missed tackle could have cost try. Ditto early Toeava mixup.
* Conrad Smith 6.5
Punches above his weight defensively. Some good support work. Few clearcut running opportunities.
* Tana Umaga 6
Handling lapses again let the ageing warrior down. Strong defence. Best moment was covering tackle on the flying Sean Lamont.
* Joe Rokocoko 6.5
Two strong runs bookended a fairly quiet day.
* Nick Evans 7
Scratchy start, but improved. Got his first test try capping a good move, one slashing break from inside the 22 and a clever crosskick led to Lauaki's try. One bad knock-on. Kicked three from four.
* Piri Weepu 7.5
Another strong allround game. Tidy cover defending, clever dink through for Gear's first try. Did miss tackle on flying Lamont, and would have been whacked on another day for a silly stamp at a ruck.
* Sione Lauaki 6
Some strong defence, good backing up was rewarded with a first test try, a couple of lineout takes. Did his disappearing act along the way as well.
* Richie McCaw 6
Strong start, but gone four minutes after the restart with injury.
* Angus Macdonald 7
Where were those blond locks? Some good harassing work, one important tackle on halfback Mike Blair down the short side. Got better as game wore on.
* Chris Jack 6.5
Reliable at the lineout, and pinched a couple of the Scots' throws. Largely anonymous round the park.
* James Ryan 6.5
Some good lineout snaffles, lucky to get away with handling bumble in leadup to Lauaki's try. Has been better.
* John Afoa 6
A couple of strong runs from the big man. Scrummed okay, but Scots hung on grimly at the set piece.
* Anton Oliver 6
Penalised for delaying a throw-in, got around the park reasonably well. Solid.
* Saimone Taumoepeau 6
Not sighted much. Part of a scrum which did enough to generally dominate, but not put away their opponents.
RESERVES
* Andrew Hore
On in 47th minute. No significant impact.
* Neemia Tialata
On in 68th minute. Didn't show out.
* Jason Eaton
Came on 63rd minute. Useful contribution. Did well to set up Gear's second try.
* Mose Tuiali'i
On in 44th minute. Unsighted.
* Jimmy Cowan
On in 63rd minute. Bustling, testy contribution. Did future cause no harm.
* Leon MacDonald
On for last 12 minutes for Evans.
* Ma'a Nonu
On at halftime for Smith. Some nice touches.
SCOTLAND
* Hugo Southwell 7
Best Scottish back over 80 minutes. Sound in most respects and impressive in many.
* Chris Paterson 6
Few attacking chances. Denied try in one-on-one jump for high crosskick by Toeava on All Black line.
* Marcus Di Rollo 5
Rated a good prospect for the future, but no change out of strong All Black defence.
* Andrew Henderson 6
One deft slip past Gear. Looked for action, but few openings.
* Sean Lamont 7
Aggressive wing who constantly searched for work. Made best break of the match, a 70m sprint which inspired a good period. Why was he no Lion?
* Dan Parks 6
Average No 10, mixed some ordinary kicking out of hand with the odd decent nudge. Not the man to set a backline alight.
* Chris Cusiter 4
Gone after 20 minutes with injury, which was a blow. But his replacement did well.
* Simon Taylor 7
Got through a power of work. Strong defence. Won his lineouts. A good footballer.
* Ali Hogg 6|
Occasional moments, badly missed Evans at start of his big run. Not visible enough for an openside in this day and age.
* Jason White 7
Honest grafter. Won his lineouts, put in some solid defensive work. Maintained his team's enthusiasm and commitment, so marks for good leadership.
* Scott Murray 7
Lineout giant. Again, where was he when the Lions could have done with some heart and skill at the set piece?
* Craig Hamilton 4
Average. Also missed tackle on Evans in his big run. Gone for a better man at halftime.
* Bruce Douglas 5
The Scottish scrum was creaking by quarter time. Credit here though, that it didn't fold altogether.
* Scott Lawson 4
Hopeless lineout throwing, which was criminal given the quality of the Scottish jumpers, thus blowing a staple of the No 2 job. Made a couple of charges.
* Gavin Kerr 5
See Douglas.
RESERVES
* Dougie Hall
On for Lawson in 59th minute. Significant improvement.
* Craig Smith
On for Douglas in 59th minute. Big bloke, no real impact.
* Alastair Kellock
On at halftime. Should have been there at the start. Big man, outstanding at lineout. Strong contribution.
* Kelly Brown
Got 13 minutes at the end. Unsighted.
* Mike Blair
Replaced Cusiter. Tidy operator, one decent blindside snipe. Not the worst around.
* Phil Godman
Replaced Parks after 67min. Clever kick through set up Scotland's try.
* Simon Webster
On in 55th minute. Did well to bag Scotland's try with smart run.
