All Blacks first-five Daniel Carter has sat out the opening training session of the week in Ireland with an ankle strain. Early indications are that it is not a serious problem and that Carter was kept out of training as a precautionary measure.
Lock James Ryan has also been on the sidelines with a tender medial cruciate ligament.
Auckland lock Ali Williams, who had injured himself before the team left on the northern hemisphere tour, has trained fully in an intense session lasting about an hour in freezing cold conditions and near darkness.
Gloomy conditions enveloped the session at the Police club grounds just outside Dublin with plenty of fans turning out.
Most of them wanted to see one man in particular - Tana Umaga.
