KEY POINTS:
You can see why Jerome Kaino is a potential All Black No 6 for his range of skills but he didn't do enough to oust Jerry Collins last night.
There was one great Kaino run early in the second half but he should have done better with a dab for the line soon after.
Those punchy Collins numbers were more prevalent. Considering that Collins - who lasted 62 minutes - was returning from an injury break, he did okay. You wonder if that glowing lid of Collins makes his game more prominent, but he seemed to be more constantly involved although the end result went astray and he was around a couple of suspect lifting tackles.
For a gifted player on the rise, Kaino doesn't stand out the way the next great All Black certainty should. Perhaps he lacks that physical edge for really tough tests.
He looks like a bloke who might make hay against the minnows, but could fall short against South Africa or say a good English pack.
Kaino failed to change that perception last night - it would be the bruising Collins for my money right now if it was a test choice between the two.
