Highlanders winger Ben Smith and Blues outside back Rene Ranger have been called into the All Blacks' rugby training camp in Auckland starting today as cover.
The two backs, who were named in the New Zealand Barbarians squad, will allow the All Blacks medical staff further time to assess the recovery of All Blacks squad members Richard Kahui and Mils Muliaina.
Kahui is recovering from a chest injury while Muliaina, who is looking to return to rugby following his thumb injury, has a calf strain.
Smith, 24, played his sole test against Italy in Milan last year and also played against the Barbarians. Ranger, 23, is uncapped but showed promising attacking form for the Blues during the Super 14.
