Jeff Wilson has confirmed that he will play rugby next year, and seems certain to be named in the Highlanders Super 12 squad in December.
The star All Black back, who has been in a self-imposed break from rugby since May, has told the New Zealand Rugby Football Union that he wants to return to the game.
"Jeff has indicated to us that he is feeling refreshed after his break from the game and is keen to play and finish his career in New Zealand," NZRFU chief executive David Rutherford said after a meeting with the 27-year-old wing, who has 54 test caps.
"Jeff realises, however, that selection for any representative side is not automatic and he needs to prove himself to the selectors.
"Jeff is a natural competitor and I'm sure he will come back an even better player."
In an interview with TV3's 20/20 programme on Sunday, Wilson hinted at a possible return to rugby but at the same time criticised the huge demands placed on modern players.
Wilson would discuss his future with the Otago Rugby Football Union.
