Taranaki have overcome a stubborn Whanganui side to defend the Ranfurly Shield in Hawera.
The Bulls raced out to a 28-nil lead midway through the first half, before the Butcher Boys scored before the break.
Whanganui then played all the rugby in the second half scoring first, before a late try to Taranaki sealed the 33-10 victory.
