The Stan Meads Cup rep rugby side took their record to three victories from three matches after defeating a NZ Harlequins XV at Campbell Park in Morrinsville on Saturday.
In 2013 a proposal was put forward to the SMC annual meeting that a SMC XV would be selected to play a representative match as an extended pathway for players in the SMC competition.
Victories against a Sir Colin Meads XV in 2013 and NZ Harlequins last season saw the SMC XV chasing a three-peat of wins in Morrinsville a week after the Stan Meads Cup finale last weekend.
The Stan Meads Cup XV roared into action from the referee's opening whistle and at the halfway stage of the encounter had opened a 41-10 break on the NZ Harlequins.
Both sides emptied their benches in the second spell to ensure that all the selected players received quality game time. The NZ Harlequins came back with a vengeance in the second half to post 17 unanswered points.
