It's all change for the Chiefs as they try to rediscover their attacking edge against the Waratahs but a goalkicking replacement for Gareth Anscombe has yet to be settled on.
All Blacks first-five Aaron Cruden had hoped to be kicking for goal by this stage of the season but his groin problem, which he has had since pre-season, means he has had to err on the side of caution. Goalkicking aggravates the issue.
It is the first time Anscombe has not started this season. The former Blues first-five has excelled at fullback but struggled to maintain the same standards in the 31-23 defeat by the Reds in Hamilton last weekend.
Coach Dave Rennie said Cruden was one option to take up the kicking duties, but so was Andrew Horrell, who will wear the No 15 jersey, and Charlie Ngatai, starting at centre.
