Gordon Tietjens' New Zealand sevens team only need to beat South Africa in their quarter-final encounter in London overnight to claim their 10th world series title.
The Kiwis hold a comfortable lead over Fiji in the overall standings as the final tournament in the series plays out and they only need to be a winning quarter-finalist to register enough points to guarantee they will take home the crown.
If they were to lose, Fiji would have to win the tournament and hope New Zealand also lose their plate semifinal for the Pacific Islanders to win the world series.
New Zealand breezed through their first two Pool A games overnight with a 49-7 win over Russia and a 24-0 victory over Kenya but they were made to work hard as they only scraped past Argentina 15-10.
South Africa finished second in Pool D after they lost 19-17 to Australia in the group stages.
