New Zealand Maori hardly broke a sweat in winning 111-3 in Vancouver, scoring 17 tries to none at Thunderbird Stadium.
Otago flanker Warren Smith scored four tries and Bay of Plenty first five-eighth Glen Jackson contributed 19 points in front of a 4000-strong crowd.
The Churchill Cup starts in Calgary on Sunday morning (NZ time) when New Zealand Maori play the United States.
The winners of that match then play either Canada or England in the final on June 19.
