Papakura District Council deputy mayor Peter Goldsmith has been elected as a new independent member of the New Zealand Maori Rugby Board.
Goldsmith, a New Zealand Maori representative in the 1970s, succeeds former All Black Eric Rush, who has stepped down after a three-year term.
His election was announced yesterday by board chairman Paul Quinn.
