The Kiwi Ferns have overcome a slow start to produce a resounding result in their opening match at the Rugby League World Cup against France.
It took 24 minutes before a point was scored in York as rain and wind lashed the players and healthily-filled grandstands. However, once the deadlock was broken, the Ferns never stopped.
Over the next 54 minutes, the New Zealand team scored nine tries as part of a 46-0 trouncing.
Katelyn Vaha’akolo and Roxy Murdoch-Masila each scored doubles while Madison Bartlett, Apii Nicholls, Page McGregor, Shanice Parker and Amber-Paris Hall also dotted over the line.
Nicholls was named player of the match for her work at fullback for the Ferns but said it was a team effort.
