North Queensland could be headed for a potential stand-off with Australian coach Mal Meninga over Johnathan Thurston's availability for next weekend's Test against New Zealand.
After missing the last two weeks with a calf injury, Thurston is racing the clock to be fit for the Cowboys' NRL clash against Parramatta in Townsville on Friday night, with the club giving him up until kick off after getting through Thursday's captain's run.
North Queensland coach Paul Green hinted he was set to block Thurston from turning out in next Friday's Test against the Kiwis in Canberra if he does not pull up in time to face the Eels.
Asked if Thurston had the club's blessing to play in the Test if he doesn't turn out against the Eels on Friday, Green said: "We'll talk about that after but probably not. We'll have to wait and see what happens."
It puts Green on a possible collision course with Meninga.
