NRL: Warriors secure the varied talents of Johnny Tuivasa-Sheck

Johnny Tuivasa-Sheck has followed his brother to the Warriors but he's expected to make more of an impact off the field rather than on it next season.

The younger brother of Warriors captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck will juggle an off-field role with the club's fan engagement department while playing for their second-tier Intrust Super Premiership side.

Warriors chief executive Cameron George sought approval from the NRL to employ the former Sydney Roosters junior however he is not expected to feature in the NRL in 2018.

"Johnny's signed as an employee of the club to work in our community and fan engagement department and he's also eligible to play in ISP in 2018," said George.

The 21-year-old has a flair for performing arts and the club is hoping to utilise his acting skills that have seen him attract a large following on social media through videos that showcase his extroverted personality and sense of humour.

During his time at the Roosters, Tuivasa-Sheck studied graphic design and did an unpaid internship with the club's marketing department.

That experience led to him taking on a fulltime job with the NSWRL which he juggled during his final year in the Under 20s, before he returned to study film and camera courses at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School.

"He's got an exceptional amount of skill in that area with community engagement, so we saw the opportunity to utilise him within the business because that's a critical part of our business with fan engagement and sponsors.

"He's a terrific kid so we're excited to have him on board at the Warriors."

As Tuivasa-Sheck has been signed to a second-tier contract, he currently sits outside the club's top squad and would need to gain the approval of the NRL if exceptional circumstances saw him come into the frame for first grade selection.

"We'd have to review his whole situation with the club because we'd have to go back to the NRL for reconsideration," said George.

"But Johnny's very excited by the off-field opportunities and at the same time still being able to play footy and what happens in the future, who knows."
